Not What I Thought... Inspiration and Hilarity for the Business of Life
By Pam Hoelzle

"Ever whisper, this is not the life I ordered, not what I expected?

I don't know about you, but if you would have told me 20 years ago how my life was going to turn out… I would have told you- you were crazy or shot myself…

After a summit to nearly storybook; multi-million dollar business, dream home, married to high school sweet heart with 2 cool kids my life turned south; downgraded to a C level movie no one wanted to experience, …especially me.

My unexpected life taught me that happiness isn’t dependent on what happens. No happiness is entirely a choice; an attitude and although life isn’t controllable – happiness is!

Join me for Not What I Thought together we will share inspiring stories of individuals who are soaring like eagles amidst unexpected lives, slightly altered flight plans and semi-singed wings."

Not What I Thought is a conversation, a conversation we want to engage in with you. A conversation to remind all of us that even amidst uncertain, volatile and tragic times we are never victims. Regardless of what life serves up, you and I always have choices. How will we respond? What will we believe? Who will we become? Possibilities abound... Always.

Share your Not What I Thought story - engage in the conversation online and on the radio and invite your friends. Encouragement to soar like an eagle in a world of slightly clipped wings and crooked flight patterns…

My Success Story - Elys Brewda
Recipes for success abound just like recipes for the perfect pie crust. And like pie crusts, it is a matter of personal taste. Some people think success looks like Donald Trump or like film celebrities. Some think success looks like famous athletes or powerful politicians. For many people, money and its byproducts give them the feeling of success. When it comes to a definition of success it is not a one size fits all.

When I was a young woman in my twenties, I felt successful because I was educated. I felt successful because I was attractive and slender. I felt successful because I had married well. I felt successful because I had travelled the world. And now as a mature woman I can see that much of what I defined as success was transitory. I am no longer slender. I am no longer married. I’m unable to accomplish physically what I could do so easily as a young woman.

At this juncture I feel more successful than I have ever felt in my entire life. My life has been a great adventure. I have known great love. I have met amazing people. I have experienced betrayal, great losses and deep depression. I rose from the ashes of each negative experience, dusted myself off and began anew. As a result, I developed greater resilience and more compassion for myself and for others.

My father was my role model for success. He was a poor immigrant from Eastern Europe. He was a farmer and never made a lot of money. In spite of that, he was the happiest of people. He always marched to his own drummer. He lived his life the way he wanted. He left a beautiful legacy in his children. Just before he died he called us all together. At the dinner table sat his family including grandchildren and great grandchildren. Before we began the meal, he said to all of us, "I’m the wealthiest man in the world. Look at the priceless jewels sitting around this table."

In many ways I didn’t get the life I ordered. I believe that I have something much better. I have found the path to inner peace. I have learned how to make a life, not just a living. I have been able to make a difference, not just a dollar. I have inspired many people to uncover their potential and step powerfully into their unique brilliance. I am leaving this world a better place than I found it. That is my definition of success.
